comment [en]	The intercostal interni extend between the rips of the thorax. Each arises  from the inner surface of a rib and is inserted into the upper border of the rib below. Thei fibers are directed obliquely in the opposite direction of the fibers of the intercostal externi muscles. They surpress the ripcage during forceful expiration, thus aid in expelling air out of the lungs.
