comment [en]	The stapedius is a skeletal muscle of the middle ear. It runs from the tympanic cavity to the neck of the stapes. The stapedius muscle dampens the vibration of the stapes by drawing the head of the stapes backward as a protective reflex stimulated by loud noise. This allows for the control of the amplitude of sound waves to the inner ear.
comment [de]	Der Musculus stapedius ist ein Binnenmuskel des Mittelohrs. Er setzt die Schwingungsfähigkeit des Steigbügels herab und reduziert somit die Kraftübertragung und damit die Lautstärke. Desweiteren spannt er das Ligamentum annulare und verkantet so den Steigbügel im ovalen Fenster. Dies dient dem Schutz des Innenohrs vor zu hohen Schallpegeln. Der Musculus stapedius zieht von der Paukenhöhle bis zum Steigbügelkopf.
