comment [de]	Der Musculus popliteus liegt der Kniegelenkkapsel von hinten an. Seine Funktion besteht in der Unterstützung der Beugung des Knies, wenn das Gelenk bereits vorgebeut ist. Er zieht den lateralen Meniskus nach hinten und verhindert so dessen Einklemmen. Bei gestrecktem Knie wirkt er schwach streckend auf das Gelenk. Zudem rotiert er den Unterschenkel nach innen bzw. den Oberschenkel nach außen, was die Aufhebung der Schlussrotation des Knies bewirkt.
comment [en]	The popliteus muscle is needed to unlock the knee during walking and running. Its origin is intracapsular of the lateral meniscus of the knee joint, pulling is back to prevent the meniscus from getting crushed as the knee flexes. The popliteus further assists in flexing the knee when then knee is already flexed. It also aids in extension of the knee when the knee is in full extension. It produces a slight inwards rotation of the tibia and a lateral rotation of the femur.
